Custom Zirconia Dental Bridges in Southeast Portland, OR

Custom Zirconia Dental Bridges in Southeast Portland OR

Losing a tooth affects much more than the way your smile looks. Your teeth work together as an arch, relying on the teeth next to them and across from them to stay in proper alignment. When an empty gap is left unreplaced, neighboring teeth slowly tip into the open space and the opposing tooth begins to drop down—leading to bite collapse, uneven chewing wear, food traps, and jaw joint (TMJ) strain.

At Mountainside Family Dentistry in Southeast Portland (3740 SE 122nd Ave), Dr. Anthony El Youssef, Dr. Raphael Joseph, and Dr. Aziz Azar use CEREC® Primescan 3D optical scanning and advanced Katana™ and MTL™ (Multi-Translucency Layered) Zirconia to craft fixed dental bridges that look completely natural, never show a dark metal line at the gumline, and stand up to heavy everyday chewing.

¡Hablamos Español! Our team is available all days and hours in English and Spanish, with convenient early morning (7:00 AM Thu–Fri, 8:00 AM Mon–Wed) and evening (until 7:00 PM Mon–Fri) appointments.

Watch in 3D: Why Bite Collapse Happens & How a Zirconia Bridge Restores Your Smile

What Happens When a Missing Tooth Is Left Unreplaced?

As illustrated in our 3D video above, leaving an extraction space empty triggers a chain reaction across your bite:

1. Neighboring Teeth Tilt Into the Gap

Without the support of the missing tooth, the teeth directly behind and in front of the space begin leaning inward at an angle, creating deep V-shaped gum pockets that trap plaque and food.

2. Opposing Tooth Drops Down (Super-Eruption)

Teeth are designed to meet an opposing partner when you chew. When a lower tooth is missing, the upper tooth above it slowly drifts downward out of its bone socket, exposing sensitive root structure.

3. Bite Collapse & Overloaded Chewing Teeth

When you avoid chewing on a missing-tooth side, your remaining teeth absorb double the biting pressure, accelerating structural cracks and worn fillings on your healthy teeth.

4. Jawbone Shrinkage Under the Gap

If a tooth is being extracted before your bridge, placing a gentle socket preservation bone graft keeps the gum ridge full and natural-looking beneath your new bridge.

How We Match the Right Bridge Workflow to Your Smile

Unlike traditional offices that send every single bridge out to a lab with putty molds and hand-mixed plastic temporaries, our in-house digital milling studio gives you three tailored options:

Single-Visit In-House CEREC®

1. Short-Span Posterior Zirconia Bridges

When replacing a single back tooth supported by the two adjacent teeth, we often scan with Primescan 3D, mill your bridge in-house from Katana™ or MTL™ Zirconia on our Primemill, and permanently bond it in a single visit.

Master Lab + 3D-Milled Provisional

2. Longer-Span & Front Aesthetic Bridges

For longer-span bridges or front smile-zone bridges requiring custom clinical shade photography and specialized lab sintering, we digitally scan and 3D-mill your custom temporary bridge right in our office so your provisional fits smoothly and securely while your final bridge is crafted.

Root-Supported Restoration

3. Implant-Supported Zirconia Bridges

Missing several teeth in a row? Instead of anchoring a bridge to your natural teeth, we can anchor a custom zirconia bridge directly onto two dental implants for rock-solid support.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Bridges

When is a dental bridge a better choice than a single-tooth dental implant?

A single-tooth dental implant is ideal when the teeth next to your gap are completely healthy and untouched. However, if the neighboring teeth on either side of the gap already have oversized fillings, structural cracks, or older crowns that need to be replaced anyway, a custom zirconia bridge solves both problems at once—crowning and protecting the neighboring teeth while replacing the missing tooth in between, without surgery or a 3-to-4-month bone healing period.

Can you really make a dental bridge in a single visit, or what is the temporary bridge like?

For many short-span back bridges, we design and mill your permanent Katana/MTL Zirconia bridge right in our office using our CEREC® Primescan and Primemill system. When a longer-span or front aesthetic bridge is sent to our master lab, we still use our in-house 3D mill to fabricate a custom-milled provisional bridge from your digital scan—so your temporary bridge feels smooth, stays securely in place, and lets you smile and chew comfortably between visits.

How do I floss and clean underneath a dental bridge?

Because the replacement tooth (pontic) is joined to the supporting crowns on either side, normal dental floss cannot slide down from the top. Instead, we show you how to use a simple floss threader, Superfloss, or a water flosser (Waterpik®) to glide right underneath the pontic in seconds each night, keeping the gumline and supporting teeth healthy and cavity-free.

How long does a zirconia dental bridge last?

With daily brushing, cleaning underneath the pontic, and routine 6-month checkups and cleanings, a modern Katana or MTL Zirconia bridge routinely lasts 15+ years. If you grind or clench your teeth at night, a custom 3D-scanned nightguard will protect your bridge for decades.

Can I schedule my bridge appointment before or after work?

Yes! We offer extended weekday hours—including late evenings Monday through Friday until 7:00 PM (opening at 8:00 AM Mon–Wed and 7:00 AM Thu–Fri)—so you can complete your restorative appointments without taking time off work. (On Saturdays, our team focuses primarily on routine 6-month cleanings, checkups, and urgent emergency triage.)
