Dentures, Partial Dentures & Implant Snap-In Overdentures in Southeast Portland, OR
Restore your smile, cheek support, and chewing confidence with custom full dentures, precision partial dentures, or rock-solid implant-retained overdentures.
Living with multiple missing teeth—or struggling with an old, loose denture that slips whenever you laugh, speak, or try to chew crisp foods—affects far more than just your smile. Missing back teeth force your remaining teeth to carry double the biting load, while an ill-fitting denture rubs painful sore spots along your gums and accelerates jawbone shrinkage over time.
At Mountainside Family Dentistry in Southeast Portland (3740 SE 122nd Ave), Dr. Anthony El Youssef, Dr. Raphael Joseph, and Dr. Aziz Azar craft lifelike, custom-fitted full dentures, precision partial dentures, and implant-retained “snap-in” overdentures. And if failing teeth need to be removed first, we coordinate gentle in-house tooth extractions, socket preservation bone grafting, and dental implants so you never have to go without a confident smile.

Why Patients Choose Our Custom Dentures & Overdentures
4 Custom Denture Solutions Tailored to Your Smile
Depending on how many healthy teeth remain and how much stability you want when chewing, our doctors will walk you through four clear options:
1. Precision Removable Partial Dentures
When you still have strong, healthy natural teeth in your arch, a custom partial denture fills in multiple missing spaces at once. We offer both lightweight cast-metal framework partials (for maximum chewing rigidity and slimness) and flexible gum-colored Valplast®-style partials with no visible metal clasps, preventing your remaining teeth from tipping or drifting into the gaps.
2. Full Conventional Dentures (Upper or Lower Arch)
When all teeth in an upper or lower arch are missing, a full conventional denture rests smoothly over your healed gum ridge. Upper dentures gain natural suction across the roof of the mouth (palate), while custom border molding and balanced bite occlusion maximize comfort and stability.
3. Immediate (“Same-Day”) Healing Dentures
You never have to walk out of our office without teeth after tooth extractions. We take impressions and bite measurements before your extraction visit so your immediate denture is placed the moment your teeth are removed—acting as a protective bandage over the healing gums until your final reline or permanent denture is completed.
4. Implant-Retained “Snap-In” Overdentures
Traditional lower dentures have no roof-of-the-mouth suction and are constantly pushed around by the tongue. By placing 2 to 4 dental implants with low-profile Locator® attachments, your denture snaps securely into place with an audible click—stopping bone loss, restoring up to 80% of natural biting power, and allowing an open-palate upper design so you can taste food fully.
How We Design & Fit Your Custom Denture in 4 Steps
Creating a denture that looks natural and chews comfortably requires careful measurements of your jaw height, lip line, and bite plane:
1. Comprehensive Ridge, Tooth & Bone Evaluation
We evaluate your gum ridges, remaining teeth, and jawbone height on digital X-rays, and discuss whether a partial denture, conventional full denture, or implant-retained overdenture best matches your goals and budget.
2. Precision Impressions & Jaw-Height Rim Records
We capture detailed impressions of your gum contours and use custom wax bite rims to measure your natural vertical jaw height, midline, and smile line so your new teeth support your lips and cheeks youthfully.
3. Live Wax Try-In (Preview Your Smile First!)
Before the final acrylic is processed, you try in your actual denture teeth set in gum-colored wax. You and your doctor verify the tooth shade, shape, pronunciation, and bite in the mirror—and we can adjust any tooth until you love how it looks.
4. Final Delivery & Follow-Up Comfort Adjustments
We deliver your polished, high-impact acrylic prosthesis, fine-tune the bite, and schedule quick follow-up visits to buff away any minor pressure spots as your gum tissues settle into your new denture.
Traditional Lower Denture vs. 2-Implant “Snap-In” Overdenture
Why do dentists across the world consider a 2-implant overdenture the gold standard for patients missing all their lower teeth?
Why Lower Conventional Dentures Tend to Float & Slip
Unlike an upper denture (which covers the broad roof of the mouth to create a suction seal), a lower denture is shaped like a narrow horseshoe sitting next to a constantly moving tongue and cheeks. As the lower jawbone naturally shrinks over the years without tooth roots, even a well-made conventional lower denture can lift when speaking or chewing.
How Locator® Implants Lock Your Denture Down
Placing just two dental implants in the front of the lower jaw (or four implants in the upper jaw) transforms your daily life. Nylon retention caps inside the base of your denture snap directly onto the implants—holding the denture rock-steady while chewing, preserving your jawbone, and still unsnapping easily at night for cleaning.
🩺 What to Expect With an Immediate Healing Denture After Extractions
If you choose an immediate denture placed on the same day as your tooth extractions, you get the huge benefit of never going a single day in public without teeth. However, we always give our patients an honest, transparent explanation of how gum healing works: during the first 3 to 6 months after extractions, the swollen gum and bone ridge naturally shrinks and reshapes as it heals. As the ridge shrinks underneath the denture, the immediate denture will gradually feel looser and will require temporary soft tissue-conditioning liners followed by a permanent laboratory hard reline (or fabrication of your final permanent denture) once healing is complete at 6 months.
Frequently Asked Questions About Dentures & Overdentures
How long does it take to get used to speaking and eating with a new denture?
For the first 1 to 2 weeks, your tongue and cheek muscles are learning to balance a new appliance, and your mouth may produce extra saliva. Reading out loud for 15 minutes a day helps your tongue adapt to “S” and “F” sounds quickly, and starting with soft foods cut into small pieces (chewing evenly on both sides of your back teeth at the same time) makes the transition smooth.
Should I sleep with my dentures or partial dentures in at night?
Except for the very first 24 hours after an immediate extraction denture is placed, you should always remove your full or partial dentures while sleeping. Taking your denture out at night gives your gum tissues 6 to 8 hours of healthy blood circulation and oxygen, prevents fungal irritation (denture stomatitis), and lets your denture soak cleanly in water or denture cleanser.
Can my existing loose denture be converted into an implant snap-in overdenture?
In many cases, yes! If your current denture is in good structural condition with healthy bite height and aesthetics, we can often place 2 to 4 dental implants and retrofit Locator® snap-in housings into the base of your denture once the implants have integrated with your jawbone.
How often does a denture need to be relined?
Because the gum and bone ridge beneath a conventional denture gradually remodels over the years, most dentures benefit from a professional reline every 2 to 4 years to resurface the underside of the acrylic so it hugs your gums snugly again without rocking.
